Curses

You’re driving down the road and it’s a beautiful sunny day, birds chirping, your arms tingle from the warmth of the sun. Things are going to be okay, you convince yourself. You smile, wave at the other drivers, hoping they feel as content as you do. It’s all roses and sunshine, but then a dark cloud appears. The farther you drive, the bigger it gets, until the sun has been swallowed whole, and then the darkness swallows you.

My friend and her family recently moved to Florida. It was supposed to be their chance at starting over. It was their chance to get a fresh start. Things went downhill, though, and today they were told her husband has MS. The start they were hoping for is gone and they are on the opposite side of the country from their family and friends. They’ve had a terrible run of things for awhile, many years actually. I was really hoping this would work out for them. I’m still hoping that things will work out okay for them.

People say that things happen for a reason, and for the most part I believe that. I can’t see what possible reason why this would happen, though. What purpose does this serve? He’s a couple of years younger than I am and is one of the nicest people you’d ever meet. She’s my age and is one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. Though we haven’t been close in recent years, I love them dearly. Why is this happening to them? Why is the constant stream of shit always running in their direction?

The thing that amazes me most about her: her faith. She’s always been a strong Christian (not a church going type) but her belief in God is so strong and always has been. Though, I can’t imagine why God would continue to torment and treat her the way he does, I hope she will retain her faith. Sometimes, if you have nothing else, faith is just enough to get by.

I freely admit that I should probably be asleep by now and really it is quite miraculous that I am not. It seems this past week that I’ve been in some sort of weird funk: way too emotional for my own good, nasty headaches, etc. Today was spent in headache land, as well, however, it went away (thankfully!) I am of the belief that I may be a tad bit stressed out.

In other news, it seems likely that the writing group I’m in has diminished to two people (myself and another guy.) I enjoyed getting together every couple of weeks to critique, but I guess we’ll just have to critique via email (until we can find more.)

I hear pounding at the door. Not sure if it’s ours or our neighbors. I’m going to go find out though.

Joanie, I’m going to get my baking on later today and get the damn cookies in the mail (yeah, I know I suck.) To accommodate for my suckiness, also throwing in loots. Found a few interesting recipes for Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars, so I may send those.
